This week in Reception, we began by learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. We talked about how poppies help us remember the brave people who have kept us safe. The children showed great creativity as they made their own poppies using paints, paper, and even lego! They loved exploring different ways to create this special symbol.
On Tuesday, we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week by wearing odd socks to show that it’s okay to be different! The children enjoyed spotting everyone’s colourful socks and talked about how we can all be kind to each other. We also practised writing the word “sock”.
In maths, we explored repeated patterns, using colours, shapes, and even actions! The children had lots of fun creating their own patterns and spotting patterns in the classroom.
We also worked hard on our Little Wandle tricky words, practising writing them on the whiteboards. It’s wonderful to see their confidence growing every day!
To finish our week, we learned about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. The children loved hearing about how Jewish families mark this special occasion. We learnt about the menorah with its 9 candles. We made our own class menorah using cardboard rolls and tissue paper. We also made special handprint menorah.
It’s been a busy, fun-filled week, and we can’t wait for more exciting learning next week!
