We marked Ash Wednesday today with a liturgy led by Father Michael, Father John and our Pupil Chaplaincy Team. Around school, the prayer tables were covered in purple. Everyone in school received the mark of a cross in ashes on their forehead. The ashes symbolise the dust from which God made us and are also a sign of sorrow and penance (action taken because we are sorry for the wrong things that we have done). A child from each class took up the class’s Lent promises. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a season of prayer and preparation for Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday and resurrection on Easter Day. During Lent, we remember Jesus fasting in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights. Everyone in our school has made a Lent promise to give up something, stop a bad habit, or make a positive change in their lives.
Why not pray this prayer from CAFOD and watch the video with your family this Lent?
Loving God,
Help us to work together
to share what we have
so that everyone has what they need.
Help us to build a better world
where each of us can become the best person we can be.
Amen
