This half term the children have been busy as always in music – here are just a few things they have been up to recently.
This year the Year 6 children will perform ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the end of the term. The excitement is mounting and preparations are being made to start rehearsals straight after half term. I think all of the Y6 children have been inspired by their recent trip to the West End to see Theatre, which tells the story of how Elphaba, the Wicked Witch, became wicked. We had amazing seats and the children were wowed by the costumes, scenery, lighting and singing! They were the perfect audience and a credit to our school.
During Art week, we made stop motion animations based on Kandinsky’s art and added a piece of music to the animation. The children loved this and produced some amazing pieces. It was a great piece of cross-curricular work – Art, IT and music all in one lesson!
The children in Year 1 have been learning some African songs from Ghana and Kenya – they also learned to sing in Latin! As you can see, we have been having lots of fun!
In Y2, we have been learning about Rock and Roll music and learning a song called ‘Rockpool Rock’ with a rather challenging glockenspiel part.
In Y3 the children have been making their own choreography and learning a song called ‘Amazing Egyptians.’
Year 4 have been learning how to create, sequence and record beats and rhythms using a computer programme called ‘Isle of Tune.’
Year 5 have been busy learning an accompaniment to Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ in their music lesson, focusing on the layering rhythms within a piece of music using drums, boomwhackers, glockenspiels and chime bars as well as our voices.
Our Year 2 choir performed 2 songs in Singing Assembly last week. They have been learning ‘Get Back up again’ from The Trolls movie and ‘Life’s a happy song’ from the Muppets. They sang with real enthusiasm and embraced learning these songs. We are going to record the audio after half term, so watch out for that!
Happy half term to you all! 🎵 ☀
